Hi, Guys!

Little help here. Im a newbie in DIY pc. I'm planning on building a cheap gaming PC with the following:

CPU: Intel I5-4430
GPU: ASUS R9 280x directCUII Top
RAM: G.Skill 1600 2x4GB CL8
PSU: 750W 80+ (i dont know yet brand)
MOBO: ??
Case: ATX case that can accomodate the GPU

Problem is I dont know what motherboard to get. I dont plan on OCing the CPU (so H87?) but Im thinking of crossfiring 2 GPUs when its necessary in the future (so Z87?). Note that I'm keeping this to a low budget build but still a little future proof (with the 2 GPUs). Do i need to invest on Z87? or just go with the H87 and live with the limitation of PCI 3.0 4x? I think this should also be ATX form factor for the 2 GPUs or not?

Also, is there something wrong with my build? :) (might be going out of topic already)

Thanks in advance!

I don't agree with immortalpenguin. I say this because at the moment you have a non overclockable processor (LGA 1150). If you were to upgrade, that would be in a long time (3+ years) i suppose. By then the LGA 1150 socket would not be in use anymore.
Regarding the GPU/s, i suggest getting 1 (either 770 or r9 280x (depends on you)) this year and then buy a new one in about 3 years time. If you invest in 2 GPUs at the moment then they will not be as powerful (or maybe as powerful) as a card in 3 years. Also, crossfire / sli brings many disadvantages such as more heat, more noise, etc.
The card that you are getting right now will be able to play most / all games at high settings to Ultra settings. Also, many games are not optimized for 2...

Well.. I think your pricing is different here in my country :).. but i'm really trying to keep the budget low. I was thinking that I do not need a lot of CPU power just to play games and that this is more dependent on the GPU (my thinking - could be wrong). When the time comes that I need a new CPU due to games, there might be another architecture already out and i will need to upgrade my mobo again anyhow. so best that I stick with non-overclock CPU and invest more on the GPU. When my GPU cant handle new games anymore, I can just xfire it with another.. again, my thinking could be wrong.. hehe

For a motherboard, i suggest the Gigabyte GA-H87-D3H for 99.99$. Best bang for buck H87 motherboard (that supports 2 GPU's if u still want to).

Have a nice one.

Thanks for the responses

I dont plan on getting 2 GPUs right now.:) Just as you said, I think 1 R9 280x can do fine for now. Although come 1.5-2 yrs from now I may need to upgrade so thats the time that i'll be getting another GPU for xfire. Although if I get an H87 mobo now, wouldnt that be a huge limitation to the performance of my xfire having 1 PCI 3.0 running at 16x and the other just 4x? just to level with pricing.. lets just say additional 20$ is already a lot here. I dont plan on getting a 120$ component with features i dont need if i can get a 100$ one with maximized use. That said, if the performance difference of 2 GPUs in H87 is not that much with 2 GPUs in Z87, then wouldnt the H87 be more practical? or would i really feel the difference in gaming performance of 2 GPUs in Z87? Thanks!

The difference will be minimal between Z87 and H87 as if you run 2 GPUs on Z87, its 8x and 8x not 16x and 8x. Also, in 2 years, why would you crossfire?, just get a new GPU. It may not be as powerful (although it may be close) but it will have newer technologies and the driver support will not always be there for your current gpu's if you decide to crossfire.

If you want a good and relatively cheap PSU, i suggest either the XFX 750W Gold or Bronze, the Gold being 10$ more expensive (depends on region)
I'm using the XFX XXX Pro Series 850W and i am more than happy with it.
Another pro of this PSU is that it is made by the best PSU manufacturer, Seasonic.
I could recommend a good one if i knew where you lived (country) or which shop you buy from.

Good Point! I was just thinking that going with xfire down the road will be cheaper than buying the current high-end gpu at that time - being that the gpu im using would have already decreased in price after a year or so.

If I opt for single GPU, would it be better to go with m-atx mobo? are there performance differences between regular atx vs. m-atx? or just number of ports and real estate?

BTW, Im in the asia-pacific particularly in the Philippines (not sure if you knew the country).

If you do opt for a single GPU, an m-atx will do just the same job as an ATX mobo. The difference is the amount of ports and real-estate (as you said). BUT the mobo that i recommended to you is Ultra durable 5 plus, meaning that its on-par with very expensive motherboards (in terms of build quality). It is also just a bit more expensive than a micro-atx board (about $10) which makes the extras worth it.
I read that in the phillipines computer parts are very expensive.
I have actually heard of the Phillipines, i have infact been there on holiday. I lived in Malaysia for a few (4) years before going back to Austria (small country in Europe). That is why i visited most of the surrounding countries such as cambodia, myanmar (Burma), Vietnam, Phillipines, China, India, Indonesia and many more.
