Overclock reset mid benchmark

I decided I'd try to over clock my 7970 GHz using MSI Afterburner. I bumped both the core clock and memory by 50 (1050/1500 to 1100/1550) restarted and launched unigine heaven. At the start of the bench it said 1103/1550 but shortly after it changed back to 1000/1500. I'm a bit confused by this, where did I go wrong?

Solution
Did you also increase the power limit? If not you're going to need to move that slider from the default to +20. This will prevent the card from throttling down.

If your concerned that the additional voltage will create to much heat then I wouldn't worry about it. These cards can take a considerable amount of heat before it becomes an issue. MSI Afterburner will report your GPU heat but you can also use HWiNFO32 to get a better complete overview.

Not concerned about that at all, I crashed after 1200/1600 without exceeding 63c. That clock gave me +3 average, +60 max, and -2 minimum fps. I'm not having performance issues on stock but I'm getting a 144hz monitor and wanted to raise my minimum. On 1200/1650 I did raise the minimum from 20.4 to 31 but I blue screened half way through the bench. I'm not positive on the temp at that time but about 30 seconds before I was at 59c. I'm guessing that's the point where I would need to increase voltages which is not something I want to do at this time.

Also worth mentioning, I didn't get the BSOD with the codes and all, the screen went blue and the audio continined for the rest of the benchmark (probably 45-60 seconds) when Alt+tab, Alt f4 and Ctrl Alt del did nothing I just reset the computer.
