I recently took a look at my CPU temperatures and was mildly shocked, I use an i7-3770K with the Intel stock cooler. I had unparked my cores the same day I checked the temps so they may seem abnormal. They'd cross 100 degrees C on load while playing Battlefield 4. I don't know whether this would happen when the cores were parked, but I was still pretty shocked. Aside from my main question, is it safe to park and unpark cores? I heard from a friend that parking and unparking frequently may damage the CPU, I want to see if the temperatures will change if I park the cores back but am afraid to do so in fear that it'd damage the CPU.
So I think it's best I leave my cores parked in the future and get an aftermarket cooler. Hence I consider going for a liquid or an air cooler, and I am more interested in a close loop or a REALLY good air cooler (preferably by Noctua). I'd give a 55% chance of getting an air cooler and a 45% chance of getting a closed loop. Based on that probability, what do you think is worth it for my system?
If I go for a closed-loop, I surely won't be buying a 240mm radiator. I do know that my 400R can take H110s, H100s and H100is, but I'm not sure whether it would all a 120mm radiator like the H80, H80i, H70, H60 and so on. I want to know whether there's a way I can mount a 120mm rad on one of the top fan vents. Is there a way I'd be able to get away with a setup like this? Will it interfere with the airflow of the case?
Please help, I want to get an aftermarket cooler as soon as possible!
