Hello,
my Dell studio laptop was dead. So I took out the hard drive, bought a "box" so I can connect it like an external drive to my new laptop and read out the files.
But I cannot find them. When I go to "Users"- only Public appears and that is empty???

Where do I have to search?
Anything to do with "Recovery" File that is on there?

Thanks for your help

When I do as suggested it gave me under "users" in addition to "Public" alwso "Default" but this is also empty.seems as if the HD would be blank. I didnt try any restore or anything, When I pushed th "on"button the screen would slightly flicker, but no starting sound nothing. Maybe with pushing several buttons I deleted unintentionally a lot? Do you think a recovery program could help if I downsload one?

I don't see how you could have deleted the whole user directory with random keystrokes, it won't let you delete a profile in fully due to locked files.

Try doing a search on the disk for any files you may have had, most people have movie, music, document files, if you search for those file extensions (.doc, docx, mp3, .avi, etc...) it may show you where your files are. Using a recovery software would help if they were deleted somehow, try Recuva.
