Hey there!

I built a new system from scratch last year and had very little help in choosing the components, so I did what I could with the limited knowledge I have. It was my first build and I have never overclocked anything before so this is where I need some help.

Originally I had planned to use the system for normal everyday internet and email use and some CAD drafting as well, but have a buddy who does online gaming (BF3 and now BF4) that I wanted to be able to join in on the fun with.

I soon found out that I took an interest in Flight Sims, specifically FSX and have built up quite a substantial simulator with several add-ons and peripherals. BF3 runs pretty well, but has some lag in video when online gaming and BF4 has lag just playing the campaign. FSX slows when in heavily populated areas of bldgs. and trees and such.

So, should I overclock my system components or buy a few new parts?

My Rig:
Case: Cooler Master HAF932
MB: ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z AM3+ AMD 990FX
CPU: AMD FX-8120 Zambezi 3.1 GHz 8 core processor
PS: Corsair Enthusiast Series TX750 750w ATX12V
VC: EVGA GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express
Mem: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
HD: Western Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s
SSD: OCZ Synapse Cache 64GB (32GB cache) SATA III
OS: WIN 7 Pro 64bit
ISP Speed: 5.1 Mbps D/L

Not even sure where to start, that's why I'm here!
Any help is much appreciated!

your motherboard rocks for overclocking and that would help your chip overclock and get some more juice out of it. You could use a good CPU cooler though and a new video card. Other than that, your system is pretty decent.

I just built a 8320 AMD/16GB/7970 Video Card system, overclocked it to 4.2ghz from 3.5ghz stock, and played through the single player on BF3 at 60FPS average on Ultra settings at 1080p.

I was thinking of changing the stock CPU cooling to either the CoolerMaster Hyper 212 or the Noctua NH-D14, the later at twice the price.

Any thoughts on either of these? Suggestions?
