since mantle is an amd technology, will nvidia cards be able to use it or is it exclusively to amd gpus

More about : nvidia cards mantle

In short, although AMD claims that any GPU manufacturer will be able to use Mantle, the cards from AMD’s rivals should be based on GCN. This means that Nvidia should abandon its current architecture in favor of this new API, something that – obviously – is not going to happen anytime soon. The fact that Mantle takes advantage of the GCN architecture also proves that we’re basically talking about a Glide API (specific API for a number of cards) and not a DirectX or OpenGL API (universal API supported by all cards)

Now there is a possibility that AMD will help Nvidia to develop a different path for Nvidia’s cards in order to support Mantle. Do note that we’re now simply speculating. Right now, Mantle can only be used by GCN Radeon cards, and that’s a fact. So, let’s ask ourselves this simple question; would Nvidia work with AMD in order to provide a different GPU PhysX path for the red team’s cards? And let’s say that AMD does actually co-work with Nvidia for a different path, will that path be as efficient as the one used for AMD’s cards?

Thanks that helped a lot. How much performance increase would mantle give to a card, and would it be worth switching to an amd card?

Mantle looks interesting...
AMD's Mantle programming interface promises to be a much "closer-to-the metal" API -- that is, developers can build games with it that can access the hardware with far less overhead, thereby improving performance. Apparently AMD has already gotten the attention of key developers, such as Electronic Arts and Activision-Blizzard, with promises that more support should be announced during the coming months. If such support becomes more widespread, then AMD's graphics cards could have a legitimate performance advantage in a number of games.

What of NVIDIA?
While the above may seem like doom and gloom for NVIDIA, keep in mind that while not anywhere nearly as publicized, NVIDIA actually has its own closer-to-the-metal SDK called NVAPI that exposes the GPU more directly to game developers in a manner very similar to what AMD's Mantle does. It is likely that in the wake of the Mantle hype, NVIDIA may begin to push its NVAPI more aggressively

Yes contrary to what some say it can support both, the API developer approached AMD, Nvidia and Intel in hopes that it would become an open standard API.
