My Acer laptop died a death so I brought a new laptop second hand. The new laptop was a Toshiba, the hdd in the Toshiba is nearly dead (physical damage to sectors) so I thought I'd use the hdd from the Acer in the Toshiba.

I put the Acer hdd in successfully and it all works but-

Windows wants activating but this is causing issues:
Both laptops COA stickers are partially rubbed off (the Acer one is unreadable, the Toshiba one has only one letter unreadable)

I turned the Toshiba hdd into an external drive and used produkey and jelly bean to try find the Product Keys. Both programs found one key successfully but couldn't find the other?? (Any ideas why?)

And when I enter the product keys ( the one that the programs found and the one I can partially read, with an estimated character in the unreadable space) windows throws out the error: 0xC004E003 and says the license evaluation failed. What does this even mean and does anyone have any other ideas on what I can try?

Would phoning Microsoft do the trick or would they have issues with the fact I swapped the hdd in?

Thanks

You won't get help, the OEM license in the laptop is tied to that system, you can't swap drives between different computers with an OEM license. While it technically could work, the issue is that the hardware is all different so Windows sees it as a new system and wants to activate. Since you don't know what code to use, you need support, and since you swapped OEM licenses to a different computer, that support is invalid to use.

MS does not support OEM builds, the computer vendor does. You may be able to get help from Toshiba or Acer to get the respective codes and try that.
