Fan "Intake" or "Exaust"??

Hello!
I have a chance to install an 80mm fan into my pc case on the left side panel (case is a Casecom MA1188). I have an 120mm intake on the front and a 92mm exaust on the back. I have an 80mm which can fit on the side. Just wondering if i should have it as an intake or exaust, which will be more effective on keeping my PC cool?

Thanks.

Exhaust. It will enhance your push-pull effect on airflow helping to pull more cool air in from the front.

I find that these side panel fan mounts rarely point at anything relevant/efficient enough and especially if your video card is porting air into your machine.... it has a quicker exit.

You are getting conflicting advice so maybe you should just try it and see where the better result lies.

Certainly this is less cut and dry than just side = intake/exhaust right? I would imagine if he had for instance a reference cooler that expels all air out the back then intake would be the way to go. But if he had for instance something like those gigabyte windforce or the hawk coolers then exhaust ought to be better, logically speaking of course.

I think the CFM + static pressure of the fan ought to come into play here. for instance he wouldn't want to be intaking so much air in such a direct method that the air just gets pushed around in the case instead of being expelled where need be. (Lets say hes using a couple of random high pressure 100cfm fans)

Though something like a yateloon (slow or maybe medium) would be perfect for intake as it doesn't provide extreme amounts of airflow.

Thats just my thoughts anyhow.

Yeah I personally avoid side fans, they don't serve much of a purpose. I find they can do some good with graphics cards, but I make sure all my cases don't have a side panel opening.

I've always built under the principle of front intake only. Everything else should exhaust as not to disrupt any airflow channels. I know some chassis have intakes on the bottom now which also fits into this basic rule of thumb.... Air should enter your rig from low & front and exit to the rear & high. Sticking to that mantra has never served me wrong.

I was thinking about having it as an intake to cool my heatsink only GT610 and fire cold air onto my Akasa K32 to keep my cpu more cooler. Would that work?

thanks for so many responses!
