Opteron workstation capable of gaming ?

Hello!,
So I'm about to build a work station, I'm mainly going to use it for houdini, modo, realflow.

I will probably have 2 R9 290 or 780ti depending on the release, and I'm not sure if it's worth getting 2 opteron 6348 over a regular cpu as lots of it is rendered through the gpu now.

also I'd like to be able to play battlefield 4 occasionally, I don't know if the opteron will allow me to do that.

Opterons will certainly game well, but you can't overclock them nor were they built with gaming in mind. I have used less capable Opterons than the model you mentioned and could tell no difference in performance to an equivalent Athlon x4 or Phenom x4 CPU.

In the case of the Opteron 6348, the games will not likely take advantage of all 12 of the CPU's cores.

I Just wanted them to be able to support the game, the cores are more for work.
