Dell 600 Modem Sound

I'd like to be able to hear the modem dial and the screechy connection handshaking, but my modem is silent. I've tried to send some AT codes to the COM port but the sound won't kick in.

probably doesn't have a speaker on it, that's what made the sounds but they took them out of modems a long time ago, in fact, they got rid of most modems a long time ago. lol.

It used to make the sounds, or send sound signals to the soundcard/speaker. I haven't taken the machine apart, so I don't know what I'm talking about. Maybe a sound driver got changed. IDK

We had a power outage and the laptop was off for several hours. When it got rebooted, the next time I used hyperterminal, the modem was squaking away!
