Good deal on the 280x?

The reason I ask this is because I was planning on getting a 7950, but the price has increased to £10 less than the 280x, so I ask this because I dont want a 280x which will end up overheating or breaking soon, like the xfx verson of the 7950, so basically I dont want a bad make. If anyone could show me some benchmarks of the 7950 vs 280x would be great!

Get the R9 290 and wait for non reference models with better coolers. The R9 290 is only like 2 frames slower than the X version. The 7950 you are looking at is not worth it.

So this 7950:

isn't worth it?

Plus the 290x is £400 so thats double my price range.

No, it isnt worth it, you can get a HD 7970 for cheaper:

The R9 290 (Non X) you can get for £310, it could be worth saving up for a bit longer. This is newer architecture, larger memory bus and would be more future proof.

As stated I would wait for non reference cards with R9 290 and wait for them to be stocked on amazon because of better service. You can get reference models now at Ebuyer e.g.

edit: as stated, the R9 280x Sapphire Toxic is a very good card and has a decent factory overclock. Give that a look.

The R9 280X is 30GBP more.

R9 280x is similar in performance to a HD 7970 ghz edition.
