Hey everyone,

For the past 6 years I have been using the same Dell XPS 720 H2C that I purchased a while ago. The computer was a complete beast at the time but I"m seeing that some of the more demanding games recently have rendered my computer too far behind the latest technology. I have made the decision to attempt to build a custom PC of my own using the resources provided on this website and any information I can extract from friends who have gone through the process themselves. I set my budget for about $1500 figuring that would allow me to build a relatively powerful computer that would last me a good amount of time. Here are the pieces I"ve found thus far and any suggestions on what might work better or where I might be able to skimp on would be much appreciated.

CPU: Intel I7-4770k http://www.microcenter.com/product/413248/Core_i7_4770K_35GHz_Socket_LGA_1150_Boxed_Processor

GPU: Nvidia Geforce 780 GTX

Motherboard: MSI Z87 MPOWER Max

Case: Corsair Obsidian 650D

PSU: Corsair HX850 Gold
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139011

Hard Drive: If funding will allow I'd like the Samsung 840Pro SSD but I"m willing to just put a standard 1TB WD 7200 RPM HD

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600MHZ
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145345

Optical Drive I'll just use some run of the mill drives, nothing special

Cooling: I really don't know much about what cooling systems are available or how difficult it is to install a system as a first time computer builder.

Well this is what I've managed to come up with being someone who is technologically savvy but who knows nothing about what is available in the custom PC world. I've always just gone with the default prebuilds computers and I think it's time I explore the full potential of building your own rig. All feedback and suggestions are GREATLY appreciated. Thanks everyone!

Yes, the processor you have chosen is extremely powerful, maybe too powerful. The 780 ti or R9 290X might be better graphics card for the money. Otherwise it is a very powerful build. Also, what resolution will you be playing at because this build will run 1080p amazingly and 1440 p very well. Otherwise good build.

Haha whoops my bad on not including the link. I found Corsair 8GB 1600MHZ Vengenace RAM ( I believe $70 on newegg). And yes this would be a primarily gaming computer. I figure though, if I'm going to put this together what would be wrong with the i7? You think it is overkill?

Duke, in terms of the proposed rig do you see anywhere that I might be going overkill on? Or that might be room for skimping down cost?
