this issue has started wednesday i plugged in the usb external hard drive and noticed a few things like i couldnt go into the drive with explorer. lately ive tried everything format, delete and new partition, safe mode, turing off ms processes, bunches of things. but what i can give to you guys is that chkdsk gives unexpected error 696e647863686b2e 1234 but its runs for a little while then gives error. hdtune gives the interface crc error count (so far its a little over 1000 goes up little bit everytime). i have plugged it into another pc to see if was just my laptop but nope. formatting and everything else does nothing even though it say it completed. most of this was on the new win8.1 but i have a win7 desktop i can go through

Phillip what test should i do with the seatools its a toshiba drive.

lonewolf7: i took it out of it casing last night and my desktop plugged directy to motherboard doe nothing power source from wall and pc.

Update:short generic Failed
Update2: hdtune shows crc count current 200 worst 253 data 2371
update3: i dont understand how i can access my fat32 partition but not the ntfs

What I meant, remove the HDD from caddy/enclosure, and plug the HDD directly to the MB of a desktop with the help of Interface/data cable and power cable. Did you do that ?

And did you tried the software from the previous link ?

It looks like the HDD has gone bad, so the "short generic Failed" showing.

yes ive done that windows wont detect it but dos will but i still dont get if the drive went bad how come i can still access the fat32 partition. im going to look into the program looks like the same thing as hdtune. i can open disk manager but i can only change the letter, format cant complete and deleting give I/O error. desktop can detect drive in usb still the same isues. this sucks though only 16gb out of 1tb is usable and its fat32.

Update: the program you have said takes forever to load then when i unplug the usb drive it comes up it does however come up with the toshiba drive has the details. want the pic just let me know says health is good

nevermind i figure its bad disk now mb wont format it in DOS and i cant do warranty cause i cant find my receipt for PoP it lasted a little over year. i found out i can access files on fat32 but cant delete files or anything

If its around a year old try to RMA the drive, chances are you wont need receipt, the guys of service center will look for a code to determine the date of manufacture, and will take it for RMA. I never produced receipts for HDD, GPU and RAM on service center. Yours may be different, atleast you can try.
