hey i'm having a major problem that just recently occurred. command and conquer red alert 1 wouldn't open at all, and starcraft 1 started taking forever to open, and when it finally opened it was a small box in the middle of my screen....with a black border all around the sides (all other games work fine, diablo 2, borderlands, c and c ra2, tiberian sun, renegade, generals, etc etc etc)
now i got the problem with the black border fixed, somehow a setting in my nvidia control panel had been changed to not stretch and fit the screen....i didn't change it and i'm the only one with access to my pc. after fixing this setting starcraft 1 still takes forever to open.
c and c ra1 i fixed with direct draw dll i placed in the game directory. it opens quickly and doesn't have a black border.
when opening sc1 my screen went black as if it were off for about 45-60 seconds b4 the game would load in a black border, still does this but no more border
c and c ra1 would just go black the same way. i actually had to turn my screen off the on after ctrl alt delete to see anything. and there was an error "Unable to set the video mode" and i had to close the game
that being said, just a couple of days ago the games worked just fine, and i have not installed any updates to anything, not even my graphics card. the games opened quickly and full screen. i also haven't changed any settings on my computer. these problems just occurred at random.
if it helps both of these games seem to run at very low resolution but all other games seem to work fine and open fast.
MY SYSTEM SPECS ARE:
windows 7 ultimate 64 bit
32gb ram
dual nvidia geforce gtx 670 (2gb vid ram) PNY
2x 2tb hdds (games are installed on c: drive, same as my os)
intel i7 core-3820 cpu (3.6ghz) 4 physical cores, 8 logical cores
cyberpowerpc (bought off tiger direct) (i updated parts)
cd/dvd burner (not sure of speed)
please help me out. it bothers me a lot that this just randomly happened and i cant figure out why. usually when I'm unable to figure out my issues i turn to google, a little more than half the time it leads me here (to this amazing place), so i created an account finally hoping to get this solved.
AN UPDATE: my other games open quickly but don't seem to want to close. when i close them it freezes until i ctrl alt delete and end the process.
