Better Performance With OLD Drivers and NO Crossfire

So recently it seems all i've been trying to do is fix my fps problems on my 5970. I attempted uninstalling my 13.9 AMD drivers without success. I would uninstall the drivers then run Driver Sweeper but when i installed older video drivers, CCC would crash and I would get other error messages (load mm).

I eventually was desperate enough to reformat which actually aloud me to install old drivers without errors, except Crossfire would not work. BUT, on these 11.12 drivers I was getting BETTER performance than I do on the newer drivers with both my gpus working. Even when I enable 1 gpu on these new drivers I still get worse performance.

So i ask, what in the world is happening?

Specs:
Windows 7 64bit
i7 920@2.67GHz (OC to 3.4)
6GB
HD Radeon 5970

Keep in mind the 5970 is a dual GPU card. It's a single card but has 2 gpus.

well, when amd are working on their drivers.. their focus is on whats on the market now. They are optimizing the newer cards. It shouldnt break their older video cards.. but tuning them isnt the priority. So its possible some changes they make to optimize newer cards can lower older cards performance. The best thing to do is to find the best sweet spot version for your setup.

Also a good tutorial to follow to uninstall amd drivers is:

That's actually the exact tutorial I followed when uninstalling my drivers. But I still had issues when I booted up. I'm puzzled to why crossfire doesn't work with older drivers?
