Hi, Im new to building pc's but not software.
Any hows i was installing my cpu into my motherboard housed into my case, went outside for a bit and returned for cpu installation but realised the orientation of my case ( lying down) i noticed i inserted cpu in wrong virtical direction.

I noticed a gap with no force. i reorientated it back (cursing my self) and yes was perfect. alls in place.
Its not been turned on yet before orientation i couldve screwed it up due to it uncentred in reverse all because i wanted the mb in case first. :(

To clear my mind should i test it or not. i read online peoples verdicts and opinions (my conscious says sell it mb or cpu, or enjoy fireworks)

Solution
Well regardless, DrBackwater, I'm glad you got it all sorted out. Enjoy your new rig, glad I could at least try to help you out.

I'm confused, are you talking about the actual CPU or the entire motherboard with the CPU in it?

If you're talking about the big main board being oriented wrong in the case, just reorient it and you'll be fine. If the CPU was installed incorrectly into the socket, AND you closed the retaining pin, I can nearly guarantee it's completely screwed, as is your motherboard. Bent pins are not an easy thing to fix, often times it is impossible.

Can you take a picture of what you're talking about, just to make sure we are all on the same page?

Cpu was orientated verically i corrected with out latching just to see and then i corrected it into right spot.

My mb and case were positioned in parrallel but not the cpu it had to be faced case side down. i latched down once corrected in right place NOT when in wrong position ( ). Anyhows This cpu impossible to get out. compared to fx 8000

Well the intel mb a piece of $?!! anyway. will never buy intel board.

How the hell do you remove lga 2011 socket.

Alright, understood. If you didn't latch it down, there is a good chance you're alright. But as stated, to make sure I would be taking that CPU out.

Try putting gravity to work for you, support the CPU with a finger or two, and tilt the case/mb to allow the CPU to fall out into your hand.

Okay cpu in its container.

So what am i looking 4. its impossible taking a photo of the socket. cpu seems okay, im no expert there.

The pins are suppose to be what? so far all pins seem pushed right as others left. never used intel mb b4 only amd boards.

Cpu out. now what? sell it, assess it. check the pins. how are the pins suppose to look.
I didnt look at socket b4 placing it.

Take a look at the pins. You mentioned above that some went left and others went right, is that right? If so, they are bent. They need to be perfectly straight up and down.

Up and down? i googled images and theyre left to right or what ever it is. all on left side seem straight. not sure what you mean straight as in virtical up all.

and all on right side of lga 2011 are straight left, as is left side of lga 2011 are right straight.

if i mounted it the wrong way i guess all the pins would be:
left left right right backwards.

but ur refering to one outta place pin.

i know for fact i mounted it right just placed it upside down.
Show me google image as ur refering too.
:(

So how does cpu get damaged IF pins WERE bent, doesnt it have to be turned on or used in another mb.
HOW DO I PHOTO THE SOCKET WHILE KEEPN IT CLEAN :(

Okay, NOW we are getting somewhere. It was my fault for not asking you exactly what processor we were dealing with here.

Intel LGA CPUs do not have pins on the CPU themselves, just on the motherboard. So the bottom of the CPU should look like this:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/9b/Intel_CPU_Core_i7_2600K_Sandy_Bridge_bottom.jpg

As for the socket itself:
From the side:
http://www.cpu-world.com/Sockets/L_LGA1155-side.jpg
From the top:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f5/Intel_Socket_1155.jpeg

Notice the pins are at a slight angle. Make sure the pins inside of the socket are all going the same direction. If any of them are against the grain, or pointed any direction other than where they should be pointing, you have a problem.

If what you have looks like the pictures I pointed to, you're probably fine. Plug everything in and turn it on.

Again, completely my bad, and I should have realized we were working with an LGA chip from the title. Working on little sleep here, and been working with too many AMD chips lately, so my sincere apologies.

Make sure to have the CPU cooler connected and for safe keeping make sure that the pins are all in place. Without turning the power on there is no way for you to see if it works or not. Its a hit and run now :)

Ohh that pic with lga socket? what ways up. that images confusing as i cant tell what ways the pin. while theyre straight is the point your explaining all pins MUST be straight or equal.

Well they do look like the diagram but if i didnt iron press cpu wrong sided am i good to go?

Is zero insertion maybe 85 percent insertion wrong way b4 correcting 4 zero insertion a pass or 50/50 good luck fail.

if all the pins are okay is cpu okay viseversa.

(Sowie for the questions :( )

Honestly from what you've said, that is installing the CPU the wrong way, but not locking it in, or applying much pressure, I think you're fine.

If you've looked in the socket, and none of the pins look like they're out of place, give it a shot. Really it is the only way to know if there is something wrong, if you can't see anything visually wrong.

I couldnt care 4 the board to be honest, true turning it ons only way but cpu my concern. its my first intel cpu :( my amd build i gave to nephew for school.

But anyhows once that cpu in i cant save it or does it work that way? on or off cpu screwed either way THAT IS if i iron pressed it wrongly. so it cant be scratched or something cpu.

Sorry for driving you all mad.

It's your call man. Personally, I'd give it a shot if the pins looked fine, but I'm not you.

I don't think you're risking CPU damage here, but I'm not a CPU engineer. I know plenty of people who have replaced motherboards with bent pins and been just fine reusing the same CPU. But I can't personally guarantee there can't or won't be problems.
