All,

I'd like to build my first server and would like to ask for your input.

The goal
The server should provide the following services:

run at least three VMs (installed on the single SSD drive):
Ubuntu 1: nginx Webserver hosting with 3-4 sites with dedicated mysql dbs
Ubuntu 2: local fileserver -> data stored on 2 WD disks in RAID1 config (would like to expand later)
misc 3: sandbox for various database platfoms (development and
testing)

Hardware
not entirely sure these parts are compatible.
apart from the cheap monitor and cd/dvd drive:

mobo: SUPERMICRO X9SRI-F ATX Server Motherboard LGA 2011 DDR3 1600
cpu: Intel Xeon E5-2609 v2 Ivy Bridge-EP 2.5GHz 10MB L3 Cache
hard drive: two WD Green 3TB SATA 6.0Gb/s and one Samsung 250Gb SATA3 SSD
RAM: three Kingston 8Gb DDR3 1333
Chasis: CHENBRO pedestal with 3 external bays (SR10769-CO)

Thanks! b

Thank you USAFret,
1, i agree that there could be more space for the system, however an ubuntu build takes up about 5gb and i plan to use up an additional 15-20 gbs with application installs per host and each VM. my plan was to save some money on the harddrives as it's easier to upgrade than cpu
1, good point. i will look for alternate solution

Thanks, I'll go with the Red version then, the model WD30EFRX seems to be a good candidate.
