my pendrive name is____ and it is in Disk (J:).. When I plug it on, the name appears (removeable disk). It is 4GB and contains about a data of 1.5 GB. When I open it, a message is shown that quotes (you need to format the disk in drive J: before you can use it) and I have only 2 options-Format/Cancel.... The data is very important and I need to recover it ASAP

My computer windows is windows vista and my pendrive is TOSHIBA 4GB
.............................Please Help.

First thing, never use a pen drive to store important data unless it's already backed up to some other media.
I probably say that a dozen times a week on this forum. Pen drives, despite having no moving parts, are just not reliable enough to use for important files when no backups exist.

Now, try the pen drive on a different computer if possible, that may be all that's required to get it working properly on your own PC.
If that makes no difference I fear it's bad news. It will probably never work properly again, and I'd hazard a guess that Windows won't even be able to format it anyway if it's faulty.
