Hi Guys,
I recently put together a new system from parts i had laying around. Here are the specs:
Maximus IV Extreme Z motherboard
Intel i7 2700k- Stock cooler
8GB Crucial vengance
Sapphire 7850 2GB Gddr5
EZcool 700w PSU

Firstly i completed the windows 7 installation on a 1TB HGST HDD which worked fine for around 2 days. I noticed that the HDD was clicking (click of death) and I received the S.m.a.r.t status of : HDD status bad back up and replace.

So my next step was to re-install everything on a new HDD, was happy completing a fresh install as I did not have any important data on the 1TB Hdd.

I proceeded to use my WD 4TB sata drive. Model number: WD4000FYYZ Sata/ 64MB cach

On the initial install on this HDD windows install picked it up as rougly 3.7tb and i proceeded with the install.

The installer ran into some kind of error. Upon sitting down on my desk to look at the error i accidentally clicked enter and the error closed. (to my horror)

The windows installer closed. I then restarted my computer. Upon going back into the installation the HDD would not appear.

I decided to remove the Hdd from the 6gb/s sata to the 3tb/s sata. the drive then appeared in the windows installer but had a size of 0mb. It also became visible in the BIOS

The hdd does not appear in computer management with my spare vista pc however, it does appear in device manager in 'other devices'.

I also tried downloading some Wd software for partitioning but it was unable to pick up on the drive.

Im pulling my hair out on this one guys. Any help would be much appreciated.

I already tried this guide to no success: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/265764-32-guide-installed-disk-system

I must say however it was very informative.

Thanks in advance guys

Hi Ronintexas,
Thanks for the response, it is sooo seriously appreciated.
Currently the drive is to set to AHCI in the bios. How do i set the drive to GPT Partition type? Is this something i can do from within the bios?
