Google Fiber and Wifi Router Suggestions

I recently got Google Fiber to my place and I love it. My home computer is hardwired to it and I'm currently getting the entire 1 Gbps speed that I'm expecting. However, I also have a wireless network. The Modem/Router that Google Fiber provides tops out at 60 Mbps which is very fast in itself, but I would like to use my entire bandwidth if I have it. Are there any suggestions on routers that have the highest data transfer rate with a good price point as well? Thanks everyone.

You will never get anywhere close to 1g. The key thing that slows you down is going to be the overhead of the NAT. Still you should be able to get a few hundred meg. Technically your PC cannot get 1g either without using thing like jumbo frames but the latency (ie distance) will limit your speed well before that is a issue either.

Your best bet is one of the newer 802.11ac routers. These have the fastest cpus on the market. Still I doubt you will get anywhere near the 1300m they claim. Wireless in addition to the NAT overhead needs to encrypt the data and 802.11 uses very cpu intensive protocol both on the router and your PC. Hard to say what you will get but it will be a lot more than 60m. The speed test sites will likely say 400-500m if you can get one located very close to you.

You will need a new 802.11ac card for your PC also
