I'm in the process of upgrading my rig. and after doing a lot of research, I decided to go with an i5 -4670k rather than amd 8350 as I will mostly be using the power for gaming and the 4670k appears faster in most games.

Now that BF4 (likely to be my main game) has come out however, it looks like the 8350 is keeping pace with the 4670k. On top of this, the mantle api looks set to further improve performance for BF4. The thing I can't figure out from the articles written, is whether mantle affects only the GPU or the CPU also. Does anyone know whether mantle will benefit amd CPU's too?

relevant exerpts from wiki entry: link

-AMD claims that Mantle can generate up to 9 times more draw calls per second than comparable APIs by reducing CPU overhead.[3]

-Multithreaded parallel CPU rendering support for at least 8 cores.[4]

Here is a link to a presentaion made by dice:

Basically the interesting point about CPU's is this:

- perfect parallel rendering - utilise all 8 cores.

So it does sound like the 8 core 8350 would get a boost.
