GTX 780ti vs everything else

With my current build I can really only support to linked cards. Later I am going to build a new rig that will support more. So for now I will buy one or two cards and link them. I am very interested in 4k gaming and I want to be able to carry the card from this build to the next for the 4k gaming. So I want a good long term investment. I use modeling programs from autodesk too and I hear they favor nvidia cards, however I am not sure. I don't really have a preference to the teams since this is my first real investment in a card. So I'm reading all these articles on the gtx 780 ti and I'm wondering should I buy this, a reseller version of this with at least 4gb or vram, an amd card, or wait till maxwell in 2014? That's question 1.

There are so many factors that I can't decide. So the second question is what factors should I consider the most?

It's hard to say right now to suggest something for 4k gaming because in my opinion we still have a long way before that becomes a financially viable option.

The vast majority of people are still using 1080p so we are either going to end up completely jumping 1440p and 1600p and going straight to 4k or there will be that in between stage which most people haven't reached.

I would put an affordable 4k display at least a few years into the future and by that point the 780ti and every thing else thats top dog right now will be irrelevant. With current consoles still only barely being able to produce games at 1080p there will not be a big push from game companies to push 4k if it can't be utilized.

For the best price to performance right now I would look at the 290x/290 but wait for the aftermarket cooled solutions. If you are planning on doing a multiple screen solution with multiple graphics cards go with nvidia for better drivers, for the price I think the 780 is your best bet, if you need the absolute fastest single card you can get(for gaming) go with the 780ti.

Depends on you time table to buy. The longer you wait, the better the card options will be for 4k gaming.
The 780ti is a beast for sure, but AMD will most likely have a 290x version to counter soon.
The 290 and 290x are both designed to handle 4k gaming, as is the 780ti.
Next year will bring new cards from both teams.
Time will fetch you a better card, but if you need something now... get it.

the r9 290x (in uber mode) and the gtx 780 ti get the same results. I am going to be designing 3d video games with CRYENGINE and I need a card that will blow through all the programs needed to make the games as well as be able to play test them at very high settings. The picture quality and eye candy in the game are actually crucial parts to the story as color and vibrancy of life will change based on the progression of the story. I want the game to be able to have an ultra setting option even if I can't play it, but I need to be able to make the stuff for the setting.

So if I choose the 780 ti should I get it super clocked or kingpin edition OR can I get the same performance out of the card if I overclock it myself?

Pound for pound the 780ti is the single best GPU on the market. Followed somewhat closely by the 290x. I think if you're going to be designing, you should go with the 780ti.

You can overclock it yourself, but you might want to consider a waterblock if you plan to seriously OC it.

I'd get water blocks after I get a second 780 ti. I'm just so reluctant about it because I want my game to be 4k ready. If not 4k then definitely 2k. Anyway, The kingpin edition runs on air so It's not necessary for blocks for either at first. Yet I wanna know if I can get the EXACT results as the kingpin card if I overclock a standard 780 ti that has an acx cooler.

and what the heck is the dual classified? I looked up the specs and it isn't labeled as a dual gpu.

I would definitely say a Kingpin. Like 1933Mhz? That's just absurd...

I'm not sure about the dual classified...it's obviously not a dual GPU, though.

Good for overclocking I believe and great because I think if you brick one bios by clocking to far or something of the sort you can go to the other and revert the first bios to working ordrr? I know it has something to do with performance and overclocking.

Yeah that also makes sense.
