This doesn't seem to be an issue yet in my new build, but I thought I'd ask anyhow.

I just assembled a micro-ATX pc in a small Ranger-M case. Tight fit but everything went in and is working. Here's the thing. The ram is G.Skill with those crazy blue heatsinks on them (2400 DDR3) and the heatsink is real close to my hard drive. Like, you can fit a piece of paper between them easily, but a credit card would take some effort.

Is this something I can write off as "close enough?" I'm not ocing or anything, and everything seems nice and cool in the case so far.

Solution
That's just fine. As long as your temps are ok, and you have good ventilation, everything is fine. Just don't let them stick to each other because if they have some plastics on it, they will melt.

Is the memory Trident series? You can remove part of the heat spreader.
Otherwise, as adimeister answered, you will be fine as long as you keep an eye on the temperatures.

Q: Can I remove the heatsink/heatspreader?
A: No. Removing the heatsink/heatspreader will void G.SKILL warranty.
TridentX’s top fin, however, is removable without voiding G.SKILL warranty. To remove, remove the screws on the side, and then slide off the fin.
