Got a new EVGA 780 CLASSIFIED today, it requires 2x 8-pin plugs so I used the supplied adapter for one plug (2x 6-pin to 1x 8-pin) and for the other plug I bought a 4-pin molex to 1x 8-pin adapter but with it all plugged in the PC wont power up, soon as I take the card out of the PCIE slot it powers up.

I did have to modify the adapter I bought today as most of the plugs on the 8-pin side were square but a couple of plugs on the graphics card had little chamfers on them so I took a craft knife and added the chamfers to make it fit.

What could be causing the pc and card to not power up? Bios settings?

I can't see the bios without the gpu installed as the mobo does not have on board graphics! I can reinstall my old card if needed though to access bios.

The card requires 2x 8-pin and the is what I have.

PC has 2x 6-pins available and 1x 4-pin molex

I have two adapter cables that go from 2x 6-pin to 1x 8-pin.

And I have an adapter cable that I bought but doesn't seem to fit which is a 1x 4-pin to 1x 8-pin. I did ask earlier today on the forum and was told I should be ok with that lot but something is not working.

I should add that I haven't blown anything as the pc and the card do power up but only when theres one power plug in the card (the 2x 6-pin to 1x 8-pin) i just get a message on the screen asking me to plug the second cable in.

My guess so far is that the power cable adapter that I bought is the wrong thing for the job?

I guess I need one of these instead?

So is it even possible for me to supply one of my cards 8-pin plugs with the one or two 4-pin molex that I have?

This what i bought but it does not seem to do the job.

You need a double molex to 8pin... Double molex is there for a reason. Its to provide the power needed for a GPU and this cant be done via a single molex especially on higher end cards
