Can't get on Internet with old XP Pro desktop (but used to be able)

I have an older desktop that used to be connected to my router directly. Now I'd like to connect it wirelessly.(which I'm pretty sure it was at one point.)

It has a D-Link DE-528 Ethernet PCI adapter which I'm sure should do the job.....but when I open Network Connections.....there is no Wireless Connections icon in the window....just my Local Area Connection.
How do I get/find/restore the "wireless" factor?

Thanks,
Michael
P.S. I've tried turning Microsoft Zero Configuration on and/or off under Services.msc and it makes no difference.
