So, guys, here's my problem: I have an old Dell Dimension 4550 computer with a very old video/graphics card. (32MB ATI Rage 128 PRO Ultra GL)

I just received a new one a bought,: 256MB nVidia GeForce FX5500.

For what I understood when I did the research, my computer has a 4X AGP port for this card. (Just one)

So, once I connect the new card I get NO signal from my monitor but my computer boots (I can hear it).

I've been reading a lot in this and other forums and I'm not sure about the solution.

It looks like I need to have 2 video cards installed at the same time in order to install the drivers for the new one (so my computer can deal with it) and then disable the old one but I can't do that because the 2 cards I have use the same AGP port and there's only one in my motherboard.

Any ideas? Am I correct?

Thanks in advance!

First of all download and install driver sweeper.

You'd then have to uninstall the drivers of the old ATI card, then boot into safe mode and use driver sweeper and get rid of any remaining potential clashes.

After that you can take out the old card and insert the new card. Once you boot to the desktop just install the Nvidia drivers and that should be fine.

Thanks a lot Roland. I've try this without success. Now, there's something that got my attention in the driver sweeper: I have drivers installed in my computer for nVidia Chipset, Display and PhysX (I downloaded drivers for the new cards and unzipped thme in my HD, that's why these are there). I'm thinking that this might be creating some sort of conflict and I'm inclined to deleting of all this before going trough the steps you mention. Do you agree that's a solution?
