For some reason, I cannot seem to get my Western Digital 1TB HDD to actually show up and have access to save stuff to it. I have a Samsung Evo 120g SSD that is working perfectly fine though.

I have the sata data and power cables properly plugged into the HDD and have switched cables around to verify it wasn't an issue elsewhere. Anything I can do before I consider this piece of hardware to be defective?

One note - There is an empty 8 pin connector on the back as well, but that shouldn't matter as long as the Sata data and power cables are in, correct?

Thanks for your time and help. Sorry if not elaborate enough. Any important information that I left out, please ask for.

Solution
Does it show up under Disk Management? Look there if you haven't already. If the drive shows up there is it showing the drive as being initialized or as unallocated space?

Haven't checked there yet and wouldn't know how honestly. Mind giving me a quick step by step to get there? Running windows 8.1

EDIT: Found it and it is showing up as unallocated. Tried to right click/format it but format wasn't coming up as an option.

Sorry for the late reply, I managed to tinker with it a bit and figure out how to do it. Just had to make a new striped volume and go from there. Thanks for all the help and time!

Glad you were able to figure it out and get it working.
