the following did not help.
the box is already unticked
thanks

Click Start and select Control Panel.
Click Hardware and Sound.
Click Power Options.
On the top left of the window select "Require a password on wakeup"
Select "Change settings that are currently unavailable"
Select "Don't require a password"
Save Changes

Well, the situation you are in suggests that you are a 'user' on an account with standard privileges and someone with an administrative account wants.

And parental locking can result in being unable to change settings too.

The way I see it is you have to persuade whomever it is that is in charge to trust that you won't look at their account when the computer comes out of hibernation.

You could of course choose the option to 'Never' turn off the computer when it has been inactive for a while from Power Options.

He he he. You sound funny when you try to do a Yorkshire accent.

Here's something you might check.

Do you have a screen-saver?

Go to Personalization > Screen-Saver and see if the 'Show log on screen on resume' is un-checked.

That might sort it.
