Hey everyone I am having a big problem that I have tried desperately to resolve I am about to give up so this is my last resort.

I have a sabertooth x58 motherboard and I just bought a samsung 840 pro series ssd to use as a boot drive. First off when I connect the drive to a sata 2 port everything is fine no problems. However, I didn't buy an ssd that can read and write up to 500mb/s if I can only connect it to a sata 2 port, what a waste of money.

When I connect the drive to the sata 3 port it will not work no matter what I do. Upon post the marvel controller will recognize the name of my drive and says it's connected at 6G/S. However that's all it will do. If I try to install windows it says I have no disk drives. And once I put windows 7 on the drive via sata 2 and plugged it back into sata 3 it attempted to boot for 10 minutes with a blinking dash in the top left corner before saying it can't read the drive.

I have spent hours on the phone with ASUS support. I updated the bios. Cleared the CMOS. ACHI, IDE.... All to no difference.

ASUS support told me the marvel controller was busted but then I asked why does it recognize the drive upon post? And then to make sure, I plugged a dvd drive into sata 3 and I could write and read files on to the cd. Doesn't sound like the controller is busted. He then said I can't help you we have tried everything.

But wait its gets better!

I plugged an older ocz vertex 2 ssd in to the sata 3 port (I know it's an sata 2 ssd) and it worked like a charm.

My firmware is up to date on the 840 samsung as well.

Well that's about it... The only conclusion I can make is that god does not want my 840 pro to work with my sata 3 marvel controller?

One final note, when I plugged in the DVD drive into the sata 3 port it said the speed was at 1.5G/s, when I plugged my sata 2 SSD into the sata 3 port it says the speed was at 3G/s, and lastly when I plugged an actual SATA 3 device into the SATA 3 port it said the speed was at 6G/s.
I saw all these numbers during post and they all make sense, but perhaps my motherboard can't handle an actual SATA 3 device? If that's the case then why advertise having SATA 3 capability's?

Maybe the Samsung SSD has the problem. DO you have another computer or friend's computer you could try it in? I've hears that EVO's have issues with Marvel controllers and Samsung only recommends Intel Sata controllers, but I didn't think the problem was with the 840 Pro's too! Have you contacted Samsung? Have you tried using Samsungs SSD Magician, even if it is only in the Sata II port? It has both "Performance Optimization" and OS Optimization" functions.

The Magician software has done nothing to help. Thanks for your reply, I will try it in another computer. I suppose the most logical scenario is the Samsung pro does not work with the marvel controller. I guess that can be expected for a motherboard that's a few years old. I suppose I could contact Samsung but I very much doubt they could tell me something I haven't already tried.
