Computers have a ton of different configurations and sometimes in fixing one problem, you run into a new problem. That is all that happened here. He gave you a solution that will work on most peoples PC, and it happened to run into a new problem.
He is just a help desk guy. Without the PC in his hands, there is only so much he can do. If he was working on it in person, then he'd be able to do what is needed when running into the particular issue.
okay, i see, the computer is black screen and beeps 8 times, do you know anyway i can fix this or help me?
And this is exactly what people here in Tom's run into every day.
Attempting to assist someone:
"I did [18 different unrelated things] to fix the problem of X"

"But NO!, I don't want to do that because of I'll lose all my games!"

now the solution to your apparent problem. It might have been fixable earlier, but all the unrelated stuff you did has completely screwed the system'
