I scheduled CHKDSK to run on startup, and it completed normally as far as I could tell. Of course, I couldn't sit there and watch it so I wanted to see the results log once XP had started up. This log is supposed to be in Event Viewer->Applications for the "winlogon" or "wininit" source. There are no entries for those sources and none related to CHKDSK as far as I can tell. Why would this be? All the information I've read about CHKDSK seems to say that this log should be here. Am I somehow looking in the wrong place? Thanks for any help you can give.

You may be looking in the wrong place... look under C: for a newly created/unknown folder... or even a new log file.. Hidden or not. I recently found a chckdsk log from a boot check... I usually delete temps and logs, so I don't have it now and I can't recall exactly where I found it... but I know the report is not always in the Event Viewer.
Look for Bootex.log

In WIn7 I searched for event in bottom of start menu then opened Event Viewer then opened Windows Logs then opened Application then on right window did a find for chkdsk. It found some under wininit for when run in DOS and chkdsk for when run in windows. Found all I was looking for.
