Gigabyte H87N Wifi V1.0

Current Bio is version F2.

In Windows 8.1 I have the desktop water mark message in the lower right corner that says secure boot is not configured. Cannot enable secure boot in the bios because that option is not select-able.

There is a new bios version for this motherboard (version F4) and I'm guessing if I update this it will fix the secure boot issue.

I've done the research to learn how to update the bios. I first tried Qflash in the UEFI with a FAT32 formatted USB drive and the proper bios file, however it gave me a message saying the file size was incorrect. So I didn't go through with it.

Now I've read that in order to get around this file size problem, you have to use @bios program from the Gigabyte website. I downloaded the program, extracted it and installed it, but the program doesn't run after it installs and I can't even find the application anywhere on my machine???

Can anyone help me out? I'm stuck because @bios seems to install but afterwards is non-existent... Is there another way to get around this? Is there something I'm missing???

Thanks in advance. :)

Looked over your mobo's manual and certainly it doesn't have the advanced bios features.

The @Bios failing might be something related with windows 8.1, I've read several threads about programs not installing /running properly on win 8.1 (long shot but something to consider).

Anyway, seems like your last option is to do the DOS flash procedure, googling around you'll be able to find an image of a DOS boot disk (the ones based on win98 have worked flawlessly for me) so you'll have to try that method if you really want to flash it.
The @Bios from Gigabyte updates the BIOS from within windows itself, you say the program got to install itself, the program only updates the BIOS so it wasn't installing it into windows, it must have already updated the BIOS, check if the BIOS version has changed.

If it didn't maybe you need to disable "BIOS Flash Protection" under Advanced CMOS Setup (AMI BIOS) or Advanced BIOS Features (AWARD BIOS) in BIOS menu.

Thanks for the reply.

Bios version has not updated. Its still the F2 version.

I cannot find "advanced bios features" anywhere in the UEFI, nor can I find "bios flash protection". None of those options exist in my UEFI or anything similar... :( There is "bios features" but doesn't have the options you mentioned.

On the Gigabyte website where they have the instructions for @bios, they show it and explain it as if its a program you run and work through. Not a program that runs and closes automatically... So confused. Lol

Ok, well thanks for taking the time to help me out. I'll look more closely into the DOS flash procedure.

For now, aside from that little secureboot notice, the PC is working totally fine. I might contact Gigabyte directly and see what they have to say. Would like to get it updated, but if it's going to be a big hassle, I might not bother. Would rather have a PC that works than one with a bricked motherboard. :p

Thanks again.

One more thing I noticed in my BIOS (GA990FXA-UD3) I have this option called "OS Type" under Bios Features, supposedly changing it to "Windows 8" enables additional features related to Win8, I don't have access to your mobo's manual right now, but it could be something worth to check out, maybe you won't need to flash your BIOS at all.
