i7 3770K GPU question

I want to build a back-up box with an i7 3770K ivy bridge and z77 MOBO.

I want to use the GPU off the chip to avoid buying a video card.

Do I just use a DVI to mini port connector and attach that to my MoBo's mini display port?

I tried doing that on my regular PC and I couldn't get my monitor to work, but maybe it was because I already had a video card mounted to my board.

Thanks

  1. You should have a DVI connecter on your mobo no? Use that, just make sure you instal the intel video drivers

The DVI connector is on the video card. I'm trying get away from a video card and use the GPU on the Intel chip.

My MoBo only has a mini-port.
  3. What board do you have?
The video card needs to be taken out for the onboard to work

I'm gonna get the EVGA Z77 Stinger. Here's the back panel-

Well you didnt specify what board you had, as lot of the z77 ATX mobos do have a DVI and VGA port to connect display to. Either way you can go mini display/DP to HDMI or to DVI either way it should work fine.
  6. There is a HDMI port. Does your screen have HDMI? What ports do you have on the screen?

Thanks, I'll boot the new board up with the mini display hooked to my monitor.

I've got a 5 year old 24" Dell and it only has DVI and VGA.
