Will SLI ASUS Direct CU2 GTX 780's get too hot on the Maximus VI Formula?

Will SLI ASUS Direct CU2 GTX 780's get too hot on the Maximus VI Formula? I want to run SLI but looking at the board, I'm not sure that there will be enough space between the two cards and they might overheat. Could someone indicate on a picture, which two slots I would put the cards into? Thanks

  1. Also, is it a better idea for me to buy two asus direct cu2 gtx 780's and run them in sli, or wait for the direct cu2 model of the gtx 780ti and sli that at a later date? Currently, I can get two gtx 780's for slightly over $1000 or a single gtx 780ti reference model for $700.
  2. The upper two slots and they will be fine if you make sure they have plenty of fresh air.

So it would be the top and middle pcie slot on that motherboard?

Also would you suggest sli with the 780 or wait for the asus direct cu2 model of the ti?
  4. Yes correct on the slots. To wait or not to wait you will have to decide but the 780 at current prices are better value over performance.
  5. In your opinion, would dual sli 780's last longer at maximum settings on every game than the 780ti would? Like would it be a better idea regardless of price to go with a 780ti now and sli later, like performance wise? Or would the 780's also be extremely good?
  6. 2 x 780 is way more powerful than a single 780Ti. So yes they will last longer I have many times planned to SLI or CF later but always ended up with new card after approx 2 years.

so, in terms of future-proofing, would the sli 780's or a single 780ti be a better choice?

The SLI 780 is going to give you bigger monitor option and since more powerful will keep frame rates up longer.
