Start Menu > Right-Click "My Computer" > Select "Manage"

In the window that opens, select "Disk Management" from the tree in the left panel (towards the bottom of the tree)

Your existing hard drives should come up with blue or green barred boxes denoting the partitions, and there should be some information on each. Your new SSD will most likely have a box with a black bar extending the full length, denoting unallocated space. Use Disk management to initialize the new SSD. It should then appear in "my computer."

If you intend to install windows on your new SSD though, simply use the windows boot cd and follow the prompts to install windows on your new SSD.

Hi,

Windows 7, 8 or 8.1?
Is this going to be your system drive with Windows installed to it or how is your configuration meant to be?

For the operative system to be able to see a new drive, it must be partitioned and formatted and assigned a drive letter.
Tip: Create a New Partition on a Windows 7 Hard Disk

If you are going to install Windows and have the SSD as your system drive to boot from; temporarily unplug all HDD first and connect the SSD SATA cabel preferably to the motherboards first SATA 6 port, install Windows from scratch (with AHCI set to Enable in BIOS).
During Windows installation it will then create a partition and it will be formatted as NTFS.

Tip:

BuildaPC.com: How to Install Windows 8

After Windows installation, run Windows Update, restart, run Windows update again and restart, shutdown the computer, connect the hard drive, start the computer and immediately enter BIOS Setup and check the drives Boot priority, so that the SSD is first.

Plus make sure that you visit the computer or motherboard manufacturer and download all essential drivers with start from the Chipset driver.

Best Regards from Sweden
