Today I bought a gtx 770 2gb for playing games such as rome 2 and bf3/4 installed it into my computer fine. deleted old drivers and installed all of the latest. To give it a test i put it through Heaven benchmark and I was really satisfied by the performance I got on the max settings.

Then I started playing rome 2 on max settings and I noticed at random times not influenced by anything I did in the game the screen would freeze for between 0.5 to 1 seconds then the fps would return to 30-40. I restarted with fraps and it showed that the fps was literally hitting 0. I can assume that this means the problem is not down to a malfunctioning monitor. Also I noticed whenever this freeze happened the graphics cards fans would cut out and then restart.

Is it possible that this problem may be due to the cheap psu I'm using? Or is this a common driver issue?

Most likely your cheap PSU. Sooner or later that cheap PSU may fail and take out expensive stuff. NEVER cheap out on a PSU its the single most important piece of hardware in your PC.

Thanks for telling me. Just last week the stock fan that came with that box of crap got clogged up with dust and failed and I managed to wire in another fan to replace it. that seemed to work but now more trouble. Looks like I'm buying a corsair next time I find some money.
