Hi there,

It's my first time posting and here goes.

I've recently gotten a new GPU and I'm having issues with it during gaming,

After like 1~2hours of gaming, sometimes could go longer, my game will freeze and it becomes black screen.

But there are no notifications telling me that my driver have crashed or anything.

However I realised my core clock have been dropped to 300MHz which is the idling state.

Could anyone tell me what is the problem?

My specs are as followed:
i5 4670k
msi z87m g43
8gb ram
superflower 600w psu +80 gold green
Gigabyte R9 280x OC

I'm new to building a computer so I would like to ask if I needed two separate cables or just one PCI-e cable for my GPU?

Appreciate any help given.

Thank you

my PSU has only 1 6+2 pin PCIe connectors but it's split into two, does this count as 2? this one is used in SLI.

I have additional 1 6pin and 1 8pin connector.
Do I use the one that is split or do I use both different cable ?

Lastly, any idea why my game turns into black screen while gaming?
happens to all my game after a while.

That PSU is not good enough... You could buy two of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/140479839705?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I never ever heard of a superflower PSU.

You never want your card running on 3D mode in 2D mode, its too much power usage and its to make your card last longer. My card runs at 300MHz on 2D mode to atm while I'm typing this msg. But when I go into a game, or something it jumps into 3D mode and loads 3D clocks (1202-1260MHz and 6060 to 6085 on mem).

I know you not have heard of superflower PSU but im sure it's certified to be good. Currently it's pending its patent for Australia etc.

I dont think my psu is giving me the problem, I'm sure it's something to do with my GPU.

Surprisingly, I managed to make my card run at 1000mhz and it didn't crash anymore,

Too bad I cant run it at the default stated 1100mhz, not sure if this counts as a faulty GPU. I might take it down and check on it.

anyway, how do I know if i'm running on 3D clocks

When your not gaming its running 2D clocks. Maybe your card is faulty then, I run my 7970(280X) at 1202 for gaming and 1260+ for benching.

Come again please...
"Used in SLI"??????
I thought you were using just one GPU....

"my PSU has only 1 6+2 pin PCIe connectors but it's split into two, does this count as 2? this one is used in SLI."

No, it's counted as one you can either use it to connect a 6 Pin PCIe power Peripheral or use it to connect one 8 Pin PCIe Peripheral.

"I have additional 1 6pin and 1 8pin connector.
Do I use the one that is split or do I use both different cable ?"

Used this cable to connect the 2 ports on the GPU.

That should do the trick.

"Lastly, any idea why my game turns into black screen while gaming?"
Have you checked with the power saving feature of windows..?
