Have I been hacked ?

I'm very much a novice re tech matters but I knew when a toolbar bearing the name ,DOOSearch suddenly appeared that it had no business being there. Where it appeared in AppData & programme files, I deleted it but it still kept appearing and that, coupled with the fact that the language had turned into Spanish, made me take it to a professional ( he runs his own computer business) the same guy who'd sold me my Dell Latitude refurbished laptop.
After a few days, he returned it, telling me he'd got rid of all viruses and some unwanted programmes that were ready to be launched. And charged me £35, He did return the language to English
. Perhaps it was the fact that he'd left the name DOOSearch on the toolbar that made me feel uneasy but I started poking around. And what I found scared me. It seemed as though my system was being taken over..There were alien files are everywhere it seemed, though, after finding the first lot it was quite a job unearthing them. There are far too many to include here (one file had 70 pages on Notepad! ) but I'll use as an example.the contents of the first file I uncovered.
It was in Pictures Library under the title ' My & My in London'.
At that point,I wasn't on the prowl for strange files but something about the title struck me as odd.It wasn't as I'd've named it. Close, but not.
On opening it,the following is what I discovered.

30 Combi files; 3fpc.pl; 4 Script files; 1Imp; 1yui; Chrome r-csc.htm; Chrome st.htm

All had been modified 15th October '13 (as had many other files) and none was openable.

It's not only files that have been affected/infected; permissions have been altered, my username has been altered; something called 'Secure Storage Digital Device' has appeared on 'Devices'
and when I tried to trace it back I found Windows 32. When I tried to open that, files began to shut down. No name for those responsible has ever been accessible.
Has Dellboy met an untimely end? Should I be using my other laptop,a Toshiba with Windows 8.

I desperately need advice & thank you in advance,

Hello... Sounds like virus... Delete the Hardrive partition and re-load OS... if your OS has problem loading, your HARDRIVE is DYING.
DO NOT copy any files from it to your other Computer!!! the virus will follow them.

Hi. thanks for your reply and advice. Unfortunately I'm unable to follow it as I don't have a startup disc. Is there any other way to carry out advice ?
Wasn't going to copy files to other laptop but wondered if both laptops were in use at the same time, could infection be transferred somehow? ( I said I was a novice!)

Hello... you will notice... only if you went to that BAD website and downloaded it into that machine too... or started transfering files between the machines... it is by direct contact only, and if you invited into your machine...lol

Hi, would it do any good if I installed Linex to work alongside Windows? Though Dellboy has failed the Active Directory Authentification business so Linex is probably not an option. What do you think?
Thanks for your last reply and for not making me feel stupid.

If you're out of options, just format your computer...

Thanks for your reply.
I can't decide whether or not to forget about Windows and give Linux a go. Any thoughts?

Hello.... depends on your programs, work, and gaming needs... there is alot of Windows compatable programs out there, and is why i need it... try to see if you can load Apple's free OS and software on your computer... there are alot of people doing that theses days.

Many thanks for the suggestion but I've already been through a malware guide via Microsoft Answers. It didn't solve the problem but I've got a terrific list of helpful sites to go through, if necessary, from them.
My gut feeling, though,is inclining more and more to wiping windows (?)!

Hello... the only way to get Fresh New Data on your Windows install, is to wipe it... and re-install.

Hi, I've just sent you a reply meant for someone else--accidentally,of course!
I'm sorry I'm so late in answering. In fact this is the first time I've read your reply,so out of the loop I've been.
The Apple suggestion sounds terrific! Where and how? I use my laptop for writing and photography mainly ,but never for games.
From what you say, one's preference makes a difference--how?

Hello... there are many people here and information all over the internet about running apple OS on non apple computers... repost for instructions or google the internet to educate you on the success stories and steps needed.... go to Apples site and ask them... they just made all their past software free and easy to use... But some hardware will not run it in the past... I have no need or experience at this option at this time.
