PC Shutting down after new GPU install?

Just installed an EVGA 780 Classified and have two symptoms:

1. PC seemed to shut down after a few mins of gaming, PC was actually still on but lost display and had to reboot. And upon restarting the game my FPS went from 120 down to 40 until I rebooted again (PSU cooling down maybe?)

2. Than had a random BSOD while surfing the net.

3. Then PC seemed to shut down again same as above but this time not while gaming.

I'm not convinced my PSU is suitable for this card, it's a 'Golden Field ATX-S628' (600w - 700w peak). It only had 2x 6-pin connectors and 2x 4-pin molex connectors and the GPU requires 2x 8-pin so I connected it like this:

2x PSU 6-pin to 1x 8-pin (using the supplied EVGA adapter cable)
2x 4-pin molex to 1x 8-pin (using an adaptor from a local shop)

The general feeling is that if the PSU does not have enough plugs then I shouldn't be using it for the job so I'm happy to get a new one IF that's the cause of my issues.

Questions:

1. So could an under powered PSU cause the issues above?

2. I'm only using one GPU and one monitor so should my current PSU be good enough? (Maybe not because its a crappy brand?)

3. Will something like a Corsair GS800 800w do me?

Obviously I've just spent £450 on a GPU so am only happy spending out on a new PSU if that's likely to solve my issues. Worth noting that I didn't have any of these problems with my old GPU (650ti)

Hello... re-connect any power supply to video card connectors... Becareful... those MOLEX ADAPTERs are hard to plug in... and you can easily have a Pin push out the back of them... or not get them Plugged in far enough... it is real sticky plastic ( Doesn't Slide well ) and might need a bit of spit. ;P

Well all the psu's I'm looking at seem to only have 2 pcie plugs which I'm guesing are 6-pin, the graphics card I have requires 2x 8-pin.

Can anyone recommend a psu that isn't overkill for 1x gpu for around £80-90?

I don't think the GPU was over heating, the PSU was getting hot though and the PC was rebooting itself. Have ordered a Corsair TX650 which I'll have Tuesday afternoon. Will see what happens with that installed. If I still have issues I'll watch the GPU temps and if its that thats causing trouble I'll be getting on to EVGA about it ASAP.
