Hey guys, this is my first post on Tomshardware forums and so I'm fairly new to all this computer talk!

I need your help though, as I am currently in the process of building my new gaming computer. I will list what I'm going to buy below but I need to find a really good CPU cooler for my i5 3570k. I want to buy a cooler that will allow me to overclock if I want to, but have good reliability and noise reduction regardless. Many thanks!

IMPORTANT - The case I would like to buy is the Coolermaster Storm Trooper which allows a CPU Cooler height of 186mm

Here are the components I wish to buy so far: (I will not be needing a dvd writer and hdd as I can use the ones I have on my current computer at the moment).

CPU - i5 3570k

GPU - Radeon HD 7970

RAM - Corsair Vengeance 8gb (2x 4gb) DDR3 1600mhz

Motherboard - MSI Z87-G45 Gaming

SSD - Samsung 840 Pro Series 256gb

PSU - PCP & C Silencer MkIII 750W (Still not entirely sure on this purchase)

Case - CM Storm Trooper

Thank you!

I have the Noctua NH D14 SE 2011 cooler and I really like it! A high quality piece of equipment that really performs in the cooling dept. and does so with a minimum of noise - almost silently.

Thanks for your input! I have done some research and found that the main air coolers that seem to be the most popular are the Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO and the one you just suggested - the Noctua NH-D14.

Although the EVO seems like the best option for me at the moment, looking at the specs of it the noise appears to be quite loud? I'm not entirely sure as on nearly all of the reviews people are saying it's super quiet. Do anyone know if it's a quiet cooler? I'm prepared to go for the Noctua however but if the EVO is as quiet and reliable as people say it is I will have to go for it!

According to the Tom's review linked above, the NH D14 performs 6*C. better than the CM 212 Evo and does with 3 DBa less noise at 100% fan speed. I find that unless I am stress testing or doing something really demanding, the NH D14's fans stay at low speed which is very quiet.
