windows 7 64 bit home premium ram 12 gb available only 3.6 usable

I checked bios and says 12 i checked msconfig and unchecked maximum memory and i switched the default one with the new one so both slots work i cant seem to get it to work though

are you sure you have a 64-bit version installed?

based on the amount of memory it sees it sounds like a 32-bit version

to check go to Start button -> Control Panel -> System
Under the area 'System' look for "System Type"

I'd say you haven't got 64 bit installed as well, Start Button - Right Click Computer or My Computer - Select Properties. You should get a window pop up with system info on it.

I do have 64 bit ive been checking it to make sure it says 64 bit and a few programs I have run 64 bit

Which mobo do you have? It is possible that you have the ram sticks in the wrong dimm slots. Check you rmobo guide for proper installation locations.
