Hello,

I've been having a sudden problem with my Asus P8Z77-V motherboard, LGA 1155 socket. On power on, the system goes through POST and then stops with the DRAM LED light a steady red. I cannot get into the BIOS settings nor do I have any video feed. I originally built this system in 2010, and upgraded my memory and mobo in late 2011 and my CPU in early/mid 2012 so it is a new problem after working for awhile. I already looked at a few topics about this issue, but none helped.

Basically, what I did was did a system Restart from Windows 7. On power on, I received a message saying: "WARNING! BIOS recovery mode detected. Please insert your system CD and reset or a thumbstick with the file P8Z77.CAP". I did NOT try to do a BIOS update or anything when I first got this message. I updated my video card drivers and thus had to reboot. I followed the message directions and put my motherboard system CD in the drive and rebooted, and now the system fails to boot with the DRAM LED light a steady red. No video feed and no BIOS access

System specs:
Asus P8Z77-V LGA 1155 motherboard
RAM: G-Skill RipjawsX 4 x 8GB DDR3 PC-12800 1600
CPU: Intel Core i7 3770K
Video Card: AMD Radeon 5870

Things I tried: My RAM (G-Skill Ripjaws) was not listed as supported RAM for my motherboard, but worked perfectly for years. I have already tried swapping out the RAM with supported RAM listed on my motherboard Memory QVL table, to no avail. I have also tried running barebones: CPU, 1 RAM stick, no drives, no vid card (Onboard GPU) with the same problem above. I have also ruled out my PSU by using the PSU in my media server computer, the same problem persists.

I suspect it is a BIOS issue instead of a memory issue, but who knows? Does anyone have any ideas of things I could try?

Thank you!

Solution
I'd try a BIOS update then, also might try the sticks in the other slots, cleaning the gold dram connectors with rubbing alcohol, blowing out the slots with compressed ait

I forgot to mention, I have already tried resetting the CMOS by using the jumpers and removing the battery for a few seconds. The problem remains sadly :(. Thanks for the reply! :)

This did it. I was able to flash the BIOS using the ASUS USB Flashback feature. I was then able to boot-up normally and all seems to be working again. Thanks!
