amd or intel for 800$ pc build (without OS)

Solution
+1 to both of the above posts. For gaming, it's always Gpu, then Cpu. You really only need to make sure that the Cpu isn't starving the Gpu for information to process. The fx6300 is a great budget gaming Cpu, and when paired with the 7950 will outperform the better gaming 4570 cpu/7850 Gpu combo.

Yep, though the i5's are almost 'twice as good' as the FX 6300. At the end of the day, priority goes to your graphics card on gaming performance.

Intel Core i5 4570 + HD 7950 (best combo)
(FX 6300 + HD 7950) combo better than (i5 4570 + HD 7850)

But if it's a budget issue, choose GPU first, then CPU.

For about the same price, you can upgrade to the 3470. Still looking at 70-80 dollars or so for the motherboard, and if that's the difference between getting the 7950 or having to make do with the 7850 it's not worth it.

Good deal on the 3350p right now actually.

Agreed, the fx6300 + 7950 is the right way to go.

For gaming, it is better but not at the cost of a lesser video card. If the 3350p is the same price as the 4570, then you buy the 4570. Might be slightly more for the motherboard, but there is an AsRock H87m for probably 80 dollars US or so. However, I'd still get the fx6300 with a 7950.
