Dual Monitor Problem

I am currently trying to setup my dual VGA monitors using a VGA splitter. However, although the display settings are set to extend, both monitors are showing the exact same thing but when I move the mouse over to the left it disappears as if there is another display there. I cant seem to work out the problem.
Help would be appreciated.

If you go to your Desktop, right click then go Screen Resolution, do you have your monitors set to extend? (Just making sure)

Are you just using VGA? I think you need to use at least 1 DVI port for it to work.
