There is no "save to desktop" option anywhere for saving files

Solution
From whatever program you select "save as" you can just select the desktop from the left pane in the save as page. Does that not appear for you? What particular program?

If your save as window has a "browse folders" button in the lower left corner, click it and you will then see the pane to select the desktop.

Yes it's there mate. You just have to navigate to it. If it's a native Windows application (eg WordPad) the Desktop should be near the top of the list, but if it's a third-party application you'll probably need to navigate to it. If you can't figure it out, just save to whatever folder is available, then move the file to your Desktop later.
