Budget limited, I'm stuck on my old Asus Crosshair 1 board which has two PCIE X16 slots. I'm running a BFG Nvidia 8800 GTX with 768Vram and I need more Vram. My question is, what options do I have? I was going to purchase a cheap graphics card specifically for the additional 2GB Vram but as I understand sli, my 8800 GTX will underclock itself to match the lower end card.

Is there anyway to upgrade the Vram or do I have to purchase a 2nd 8800 GTX?

VRAM doesn't stack. Ie, if you have two 7850s with 2gb VRAM, you have 2gb VRAM. Not 4. Additionally, if you have two cards, one at 1gb and the other at 2gb, the 2gb card will run as if it had 1gb.

Finally to SLI or Crossfire cards, they need to have the proper connector at the top (except the newer R7s and R9s) and must be the same basic card. So you could have an MSI 660 and a Gigabyte 660, but not a GTX 660 and a GTX 670.

Oh, and I forgot, as long as they're the same card, they don't change their clock speeds to match each other. One can be running at 1000MHz, and the other can be running at 900. They don't care about the other's clock speed.
