what is the meaning of Quad SLI and crossfire

Hi guys
i want to ask about the Quad SLI and crossfire in this board ASRock Z87 Extreme6
3 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots (PCIE2/PCIE3/PCIE4: single at x16 (PCIE2); dual at x8 (PCIE2) / x8 (PCIE3); triple at x8 (PCIE2) / x4 (PCIE3) / x4 (PCIE4))
- 1 x PCI Express 2.0 x1 slot
- 1 x mini-PCI Express slot
- 2 x PCI slots
- Supports AMD Quad CrossFireX™, 3-Way CrossFireX™ and CrossFireX™
- Supports NVIDIA® Quad SLI™ and SLI™
what is this mean?

Quad SLI means 4gpus same as Quad Crossfire. So you can put 2 dual gpu graphics cards such as the gtx 690 together...or two 7990s...or four GTX 760s etc....SLI being nvidias multi GPU solution, and crossfire AMDs.

EDIT: Every configuration supports a MAX of 4 GPUs, meaning that if you use a DUAL GPU card such as the HD7990 you can only use 2 cards in the xfire configuration for a maximum of 4 GPUs (2 per card). Or you the GTX 760 and putting 4 of them together to utilize 4 GPUs again but one per card. Both AMD and nVidia work this way as far as I know.

That is just the way they worded it according to their marketing DEPT or AMD/nVidia. Either way its just their way of telling you how many GPUs they support on that board even though going over simple 2GPU sli/xfire should be done on the high end intel platforms like the x79.
