Hello,
I have found multiple threads about the same issue on this forum, but it seems rather hardware specific when looking at the solutions. So I'm asking it in a new thread.
I recently am experiencing an issue on my Alienware M14xR1. Upon booting, my system performs beeps in series of 5 while showing nothing but a black screen. After a few times of trying the system eventually boots. Once booted everything runs perfect (except that my date and time are reset every time). I found via the support forums of Dell that this could be related to a CMOS battery failure.
I need to mention that my system had not been booted for a long time (several months), upon booting after these months of inactivity, the issue occured for the very first time. This made me believe it surely had to be a CMOS related issue...
Steps I have taken (in order of performing them):
1) This, originated from Dell Support forum but I cannot find the original link.
2) I replaced the CMOS battery, the old battery was empty indeed.
3) I successfully flashed my BIOS to version A08 (latest for my system).
4) I ran Dell PC Diagnostics and no problems were detected.
I found other threads here that speak of resetting CMOS settings in the BIOS (how to do so?), or that is related to CPU/motherboard failure instead (how do I know which causes this?). I thought replacing the CMOS would do, but I don't know where to go from here.
Thanks in advance
