I dropped my xbox 360's HDD and it gradually began to fail every time I turned it on. All the games that had saves were there, but they all said "0KB" next to them. The same amount of memory is used up but it cant access the saves. I plugged the drive into my computer and used a program that reads xbox HDD's (xport 360) and it picks up the drive, the three partitions, but when I click on partition 3 where the game saves are located the drive disappears and xport says "no xbox media of hdd found". (or something like that). I tried the same thing with a healthy drive and I can access the game saves fine. I've had the drive open and the platter spins fine, but the drive beeps and the arm goes crazy then returns to the start point, at which point windows makes the sound it does when a device is connected (usually a few minutes after plugging it in).
What is wrong with the drive and how could I fix it to access the data? was thinking of buying an identical drive and switching platters to see if that works. The data isn't really important but there's around 5 years of game saves on there I would like to get back.
