notice: overclocking for the first time, so I might just be kind of missing a point or an option.
I am currently overclocking my i7 2600k, and currently checking 41 mult.
when I stress test it using hiperPi, it goes from 41 mult to around 25, meaning my overclock is wasted under load. im using a Gigabyte Z68X-UD3P-B3 as a motherboard.

It is also worth mentioning that the thermometer on the CPU is dead, real temperature is ~35 to 40 idle, while it says 100C.

Solution
Intel technology from 2nd generation is made to reduce clocks of proccessor if its running too hot. Dead Thermomether is the problem of your problem :(. It shows that processor runs on 100C and bios automaticaly reduce clocks trying to make lower temparatures.

When you run prime95 does it cancel some of the threads? It could be that you dont have enough voltage and cores are quitting on you.

If that isn't it, he^ is right, you will need to contact whoever you bought it from and get a replacement.

That's what I suspected. I'll first try to replace the false readings somehow, as I'm not sure I can replace it for free anymore, being quite an old cpu.
Is there a way of sending `false` readings to the bios?
